Al Williams is one of Washington, DC’s most highly regarded musicians. With a depth of tone and a freshness of sound that comes from years of playing with greats like Stanley Clarke and Mongo Santamaria and members of the group Spyro Gyra, Al has earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
He is widely known for his graceful, melodic style on tenor, alto and soprano saxophones, in addition to alto and C flutes. JAZZTIMES Magazine noted the ‘poetic beauty’ of his saxophone solos. He has also been honored with four Washington Area Music Awards (WAMMIEs), including Best Jazz Instrumentalist and Best Jazz Recording of the Year.
Born on a New Year’s Day in the city of Philadelphia, Al graduated from the Philadelphia Musical Academy. He then when on tour extensively and played on numerous successful recordings including five albums of his own. He now resides in the DC area and HRH Productions is proud to present him for appearances as a solo performer, with a small combo, or a full band. Al Williams and Prince Havely often perform together as featured artists with a natural rapport and concurrent sense of masterful musicianship and style.
